SAVE MONEY USING A CLOTHES LINE

Instead of paying money for the electricity and gas that it takes to dry your clothes in an electric dryer, try using a clothesline to dry your clothes instead so that you can save money. This is  especially useful if you live in the southern states with warmer temperatures all year.  While you may have never thought about this much before, electricity really is not free.  Even if you do happen to have a relatively new dryer, it is still going to use approximately 765 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.  This averages out to approximately $5 per month that you would need to spend on electricity to dry your clothes.  This cost is per person.  So, if you have a family of 4, you would be spending around $20 per month just to dry your clothes.  If you use a gas dryer you are paying for electricity and gas. While it may not seem like a lot of money, the savings will add up over the year. Remember the wind and the sun are free.

Of course, it does take a bit of room to be able to set up a clothesline and it takes a few extra minutes to hang up your clothes on the clothesline.  In the end though, stop to consider what you could be doing if you were able to save that extra $20 or more per month.  This certainly could be money that was better spent on something else.

Drying cloths on an indoor line in the winter has the added advantage of boosting the humidity in the home. Forced air furnaces are notorious for making houses too dry in the winter. If you are getting static electricity sparks your air is too dry. Increasing the moisture in the air will help you feel more comfortable and let you turn the thermostat down another degree or two.
