SAVE MONEY BY CHANGING LIGHT BULBS

Since 10% of your home’s energy is used in lighting your home, it is a good idea to make it a goal to convert your entire home over to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and cut that lighting energy use in half, reducing it to only about 5%.  As you can clearly see, this will save you money over what you are paying for regular incandescent light bulbs.  Of course, making such a conversion all at one time will cost you a great deal in both time and money.  For this reason, you will want to slowly replace your incandescent light bulbs with CFLs.  You can do this by simply replacing each light bulb with a CFL as it burns out.

The reason that CFLs are so great is that they last 10 to 15 times longer than most incandescent light bulbs, meaning that they should last you between 6,000 to 15,000 hours.  What is even better about this is that CFLs offer quality light for their entire lifetime of use.  At the same time they also consume a lot less energy than a standard incandescent light bulb does. You will be saving two ways by changing your light bulbs over.

Another great thing about CFLs is that they require approximately one third of the total power that is required of an incandescent light bulb.  This is because CFLs are able to convert nearly all of the electrical power that they consume directly into radiant power, which is what produces the light.

So, while the initial cost of CFLs can be higher in comparison to the price of standard incandescent light bulbs, their true value is paid for by how energy efficient they are.  By converting your home to CFLs you can save a great deal of money on your monthly electricity bills.
