USE CURTAINS TO SAVE ON UTILITIES
Whenever it is hot outside and the sun is at its brightest, you should make sure that your curtains are closed. This will help to keep the heat out. Otherwise the direct sunlight is going to pour inside of your home heating it up a lot in a very short amount of time. Of course, this is something that you may also want to do during the winter as well since it will help to keep out any cold drafts. Either of these things are going to cost you money as you will find yourself running either the air conditioning or the heater more and thus paying for the utilities that you are using. While it may not be much fun to have to keep your curtains closed, since we all want to see outside sometime, the amount of money that you can save by reducing your utility bills will make up for this.
Monitor the weather the amount of temperature change throughout the day from the curtains being opened and closed until you find a good balance of being able to have sunlight come in to avoid lights being turned on and controlling the heat and cool air that enters the home through windows.
Eventually you may even be able to save enough money to be able to install interior shutters so that you can monitor what light you do allow to enter your home. This is a good idea because without the proper amount of sunlight it is possible to become depressed, which is something you do not want to have to deal with either. This is most common in winter and rainy months.
